Two CDV's Duke & Duchess of Edinburgh
(Alfred, Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha) (1844 – 1900) was the third Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha, and reigned from 1893 to 1900. He was also a member of the British Royal Family, the second son and fourth child of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. He was created Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Kent and Earl of Ulster in the peerage of the United Kingdom on 24 May 1866. He succeeded his paternal uncle Ernst as the reigning Duke of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha in the German Empire on 23 August 1893.
(Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna of Russia) (1853 – 1920) was a daughter of Alexander II of Russia and Empress Maria Alexandrovna. Maria became the wife of Prince Alfred, Duke of Edinburgh, the second son of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha. From 1893 until her death, she had the distinction of being a Russian grand duchess (by birth), a British royal duchess (by marriage), & the consort (& later widow) of a German duke.
