Paternal grandson of Arsen Karađorđević, Prince of Serbia and Princess Aurora Pavlovna Demidova di San Donato.
Maternal grandson of HRH Prince Nicholas of Greece and Denmark and HIH Grand Duchess Elena Vladimirovna Romanovna of Russia.
Known as "Nicky", he was educated in England at Oxford University and was a frequent social escort to HRH Princess Margaret, sister of Queen Elizabeth II. The press often linked them romantically and speculated on a possible marriage between them.
Nikola died in an automobile accident in Buckinghamshire, England, just five miles from the home of his aunt, the Duchess of Kent.(Datchet, the place of death, was transferred to the county of Berkshire in 1974)
His funeral service was held in London at the Serbian Orthodox Church on 17 April 1954.
Prince Nikola was unmarried and was survived by his parents, HRH Prince Paul and HRH Princess Olga of Yugoslavia; brother, Prince Alexander; sister, Princess Elizabeth; grandmother, HIH Grand Duchess Elena of Russia, Princess of Greece and Denmark; and his aunt, HRH The Duchess of Kent.

Her maternal grandparents were His Grand Ducal Highness the Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II of Mecklenburg-Schwerin and Her Royal Highness the Princess Augusta of Reuss-Köstritz. Helena (known as Elena in the family) married His Royal Highness the Prince Nicholas of Greece & Denmark (House of Slesvig-Holsten-Sønderborg-Lyksborg), the third son of His Majesty the King George I of the Hellenes and Her Majesty, the Queen Olga (Olga was a daughter of the Russian Grand Duke Konstantin Nikolayevich and Alexandra Iosifovna) on the 29 August 1902 at Tsarskoe Selo.
