Enamel plique-a-jour spoon |
Russian silver plique-a-jour enamel spoon, Moscow, late 19th century.The bowl of the spoon is decorated in a scrolling plique-a-jour foliate motif within a border of turquoise opaque enamel pellets against a white stippled ground. The traditional twist handle contains additional accents in blue, cobalt and white enamel. Marked with the 84 silver standard. Makers initials apparentely unclear. Weight: 1.1 oz or 30 grams. Length: 5 1/2".
If you hold the spoon to the light you can see through the transparent enamel. The bowl is pierced and filled with vibrantly colored plique-a-jour enamel in floral and foliate motifs.
