Russia 1909 gold 5 Roubles, Nicholas II era rare small mintage year, only a fraction of the original mintage survived.1909 coin very scarce limited mintage.
1909 gold 5 Roubles is very hard to find, especially in a good condition with original mint luster – rare as such. Struck at the St. Petersburg mint. Mintmaster’s initials ЭБ on the rim. The coin is about 4.3 grams, and 18.5 mm in diameter, inscription on the rim. Scarce in good condition. This year is somewhat of a mystery as there was no mint report for 1909 5 Roubles in any Imperial Mint ledgers. The original mintage almost certainly in low thousands as this year was always hard to find. Add mass melting of gold coins of any kind during the two World Wars, the Russian Civil War, and a repressive Soviet regime, and it becomes apparent why the Imperial Russian coins are so hard to find in any condition this days. A number of the surviving specimens of any given year is probably less than a ten percent of original mintage.
